I did it!!!!

This morning I ran 12.33 Kilometers and set myself a new Personal Distance Record πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ I am so happy!!
I was really really nervous about this run because I didn’t know how I was going to do, or if I’d be able to finish, but I must say, I kicked this run’s BUTT!

I had a nice, slow time of 1 hour 24 minutes and 17 seconds. With more practice and training I plan to whittle that down to around 1 hour 10 minutes.Β I wasn’t aiming for a killer time today, I just wanted to maintain a steady pace and see what my body wanted and needed to do and I would speed up or slow down from there.

It was actually a fabulous run to be honest, I don’t know why, but the last three runs I’ve done have been sooo good! I just really enjoy them and I’m always grateful for every single step I get to take. Today was glorious, and regarding respiratory conditions, I could’ve kept going for another 5 or 6k’s, but the only thing stopping me was my sore, stiff legs. Towards the end they felt like they were fighting their way through quicksand.

Not to mention the pretty nasty knee pain I started to get 😦

I ran out of water around the ninth Kilometer which sucked. It meant that for three kilometers I had to suffer thirst and watch my performance suffer. Next time I’ll be more careful to fill my pack with a lot more water for long, hot runs like today’s.

I feel like I can conquer ANYTHING in running now! πŸ˜€ It’s awesome to think that I was just 2.77k’s off having run 15 Kilometers. 15 Kilometers have always seemed waaay scary and an unreachable goal. Two months ago, had you asked me if I thought I could run that, I would’ve laughed in your face, but NOW, I can’t wait to accomplish that goal!!! It’s so exciting!

I probably could’ve run 15K’s today if it weren’t for my sore quads.

I feel so good knowing that I made it πŸ˜€ No problems, AT all. It couldn’t have been a better run. I now look forward to all the long runs I have in the future!

12k’s makes 5k’s seem like a walk in the park hahaha.

“Summer” weather day 2 + Project Glow

Today’s the 2nd day of Summer. You think yesterday’s weather was bad? Check out what it looked like this morning:

Ridiculous! It was like that until 2pm!

I think Summer’s broken… I can’t wait for the nice hot sun to come out. I had my last exam today so now I’m officially on holiday with no academic responsibilities!!! πŸ˜€ YAY!

Despite the bad weather, I did manage to get a couple of nice photos of some of our flowers after the rain.

Wow… I cannot tell you how weird the last 24 hours have been. I had the most horrendous night in history, words cannot even explain how bad it was..

Our house alarm was faulty, and from Midnight until FOUR IN THE MORNING it was going on and off randomly. Now let me tell you, that shit is LOOOOUUUUDDD!!!!
Like, piercing, straight through you, can’t THINK straight, so loud it makes you feel SICK.

And of course, none of us had the code to disarm it because mum and Mark never wrote it down before they went down south. We tried everything to contact them and just could not get hold of them. We phoned EVERYWHERE and even rang the police for assistance, but they couldn’t help us.

Eventually we rang the leader of the motorbike pack’s cellphone (at four in the morning) and he answered amazingly. We told him it was an emergency and to get Mum and Mark to phone us.

When they eventually did, we decided to disarm it altogether because we were almost certain that it would go off again even if we did have the code because it was faulty. We switched the alarm system off completely and that was that.

I went to bed and fell asleep at around 4.30am, dreading getting up at 7.30 for my exam. But, I was a trooper and I did it. No way did I have any energy for a run. I’ve decided to skip today’s run, my body just isn’t up to it.

After my exam I had to go out again to run a few errands, and I’ve felt like a zombie all day. Good thing is though that I’ve managed to be fairly productive. Got a lot done.

That brings me to my next point….

Project Glow

Bet most of you don’t know this, but I suffer from acne pretty bad. I have it “under control” at the moment on medication, but the thing is, I’ve been on this medication for almost 2 Β years now. That is waaaaaay longer than I should’ve been on it.

The reason I’m still taking it is because every time I try to go off it, I have a breakout within the first week and it freaks me out.

This time though, I’ve decided to go off it and let myself breakout, I’m going to explore a bunch of natural approaches to dealing with it. I read Angela’s Project Glow blog posts and I decided to do something really similar and along the same lines to see if I can get great results without chemicals (aside from my face wash and moisturizer).

The first thing I’m going to do is obviously, stop taking Doxycycline. I’m a little bit worried about going cold turkey, but I want to start straight away with my new skin care programme.

The next thing I’m going to do is stop using Clearasil. I went to the chemist to ask about face washes and she told me to STAY AWAY FROM CLEARASIL! She said it could actually be making my skin WORSE by drying it out and causing a build up of pimple causing bacteria.
My plan is to go the Body Shop and purchase some Tea Tree Oil face wash. That stuff is supposed to be a fantastic, natural cleanser to help prevent acne. But until I get the opportunity to go there (we don’t have a Body Shop in Whakatane), I’m going to ditch the Clearasil and use something more gentle.

I’m going to drink a green monster every day. They’re supposedly brilliant at helping you get your “glow” on.

I’m going to (continue to) drink 2+ cups of Green Tea daily. This shouldn’t be a problem for me at all since on average, I drink 4+ daily haha. I also want to drink more water. Lately I haven’t been too good with my daily liquid intake. Also I drink waaaaayyy too much coffee, so that’s gotta go. Now that exams are over, I don’t think I’ll be needing it anyway πŸ™‚

My favourite brand of Green Tea is Bell Zesty Green Tea.

I want to get body exfoliator too, because I figure that this might as well be changes for my entire body.

This challenge will last until the end of December, hopefully by then I will not be reliant on pills and medication and I will have a healthy, natural glow with naturally clear skin!

Omg, I need a life.

Seriously… Today has been quite possibly the most depressing day of my life. I’ve never felt like more of a loser and to be honest, I’ve never felt so LONELY!

It’s so tragic, I haven’t really left the house except to run for the last two weeks. It’s the saddest thing ever. I’m starting to get cabin fever and I’m keen for some excitement in my life.

I don’t even have mum to hang out with coz she’s on vacation… That’s reaching all new levels of retard.

Tomorrow will be the first day of my all new will to be social once again. I’m going to Edgecumb Christmas In The Park with Joy. (Gonna go watch Dallas play :]) I really like Joy, she’s one of my really really good friends. She’s the type of friend you really, truly can trust.

Those kinds of friends don’t come around very often.

I’ve decided to make a list of goals that I must achieve these holidays.

Things to achieve:

1. Make good friends with someone entirely new, that I’ve never met/spoken to before.

2. Find a running buddy, run with them 3 times or more.

3. Have a celebratory lunch with my friends to celebrate the end of exams/school year.

4. Have a picnic with Dallas (he doesn’t know about this one yet lol)

5. Get out of the house and spend a day taking photographs of anything and everything that strikes me as beautiful or interesting.

6. Go to Mount Maunganui and run around it, then get waffle cones, then swim at the beach πŸ˜€

7. Go up to Auckland and go for a walk with Kerre Woodham.

8. Have a picnic with somebody at the Heads.

9. Have a girly sleepover.

10. Rope more people in to playing Tennis on my tennis court.

11. Go christmas BROWSING (eg, go to shops, but since I’m broke, look at things and decide what I’ll buy/make for everyone).

12. Get something interesting done to my body. e.g belly button piercing again.

13. Volunteer at the SPCA

14. Go to the movies with Dallas.

15. Go to Hamilton and catch up with old friends.

16. Find a way of making money.

17. Try and organize a nice family dinner.

18. Have a heart to heart with someone unexpected.

19. Have a few of my best friends over for a BBQ.

20. Go surfing (once all the jellyfish have fled the area :S)

21. Rope a friend into making a hilarious song on Garageband.

22. Hang out with Kelsi heaps before she leaves.

That’s all I’ve got for now, but I will definitely keep updating this with details on how I’m going πŸ™‚

Fingers crossed I complete it!

Consider this my “holiday Challenge” πŸ˜‰

Toi’s Challenge recap.

Well, as the readers know, yesterday I took part in the Toi’s Challenge, 18.5 Kilometer bush walk as a walker.

That was the first time I’ve ever done it in my life and I set a new PDR (personal distance record) when I completed it. I was really proud of myself for having completed it with minimal training πŸ™‚

It took me and Mum 4 hours to do it. I decided to stick with her for the whole time and I was SO proud of her because she’s done NO training at all and still managed to kick butt and came in a mere 5 minutes after myself. She would’ve kept up with me but she got stuck behind this big group who were walking a step a MINUTE and looked like they were about to keel over :/

It was, without a doubt, the most painful four hours of my life, but the most beautiful. I saw some beautiful scenery that I didn’t even know existed in our small little town, and I also worked those Glut muscles! Β Which is what my trainer Gaz said is something I need to strengthen.

My lucky number– 13. Won me a cute little spot prize which consisted of a small punnet of strawberries (which I devoured within 5 minutes of finishing the race), a box of lollies (which I tried to offload to Dallas coz they were yuck lol) and a walkers magazine.

There’s loads more, but I won’t post them all, there’s too many! It was a truly beautiful walk though, and I’d recommend it to anybody. However, you do require a certain level of fitness for it to be enjoyable.

I’m really sore today, in my hips, butt and lower back. I don’t know why but I had killer back and hip pain yesterday.. made me a little worried :S

Anyway, I have a study group to go to in 40 minutes and I’m walking there, so I’ll take some photos and post them later πŸ™‚

Things I’m Grateful For #6

Missed part 1,2,3,4 & 5?

I am grateful to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

Completing Toi’s Challenge yesterday was a huge accomplishment for me, and it was also fantastic in the regard that I’ve never really appreciated the beauty of Whakatane.

Of course I still can’t wait to haul ass outta here, but believe me when I say it’s the people and memories I have here that I dislike, NOT the town itself.

Toi’s is supposed to be one of the most beautiful walks in the world, and it truly lived up to it’s reputation.

It was truly breathtaking and I’m glad I participated in the challenge as a walker because if I had been running, I would never have absorbed in the scenery. This gave me the opportunity to truly take it all in and stop and take heaps of photos.

Obviously the photo will never be as good as reality, but it gives you a good idea.

New direction.

Hey guys. I’ve been super slack on blog updates lately, so here I am to fill you in on all the good stuff.

First of all, SCHOOL’S OUT!! For the year πŸ˜€ I can’t believe that it has finally ended…
This year has been nothing short of tortuous, and I could not be happier that it’s over.

Prize giving was a drag… 3 hours long. I was so hungry by the end, I thought I was going to chew off my arm.
We had to sit in those stupid tiered  seats the whole time, I had a really sore neck and back after 😦

Initially I was excited. here’s a pic of Morgan and Me in the gym waiting to go into the Auditorium for the big show.

On the bright side, I have passed and finished NCEA level 1!! Which is FANTASTIC because it means I can cruise through the exams. I don’t need to rely on them to pass, which is a massive weight lifted off my shoulders.

Anywho, I’ve made a decision about my blog.

I think I’m going to take it in a slightly different direction. Make it less sports orientated. I’ll let my creative side show a little by posting pictures of amazing photography that I love, tattoo ideas, poems etc. I don’t show that side often enough and I feel like I really want to.

So I won’t be blogging about food anymore at all. I’ll still blog about my exercise and how I’m going with Gaz (who I’m meeting in Auckland this saturday!!!), and how the half-marathon training is coming along.

I’ll also change my blog theme because the current one is driving me insane. It’s so not me.

As of today, I’m on holiday!! So expect far more posts about more interesting things than what I’ve had to eat. I’ve also developed the habit of taking my camera with me anywhere and everywhere. You never know when there’ll be something worth catching a snap of.

This weekend I’m heading up to Auckland on the motorbike to meet Gaz, my personal trainer. That’s a 3 and a half hour ride each way… I’m going to have one sore backside by tea-time.

Then on Sunday I’m jogging Tois Challenge with mum. I’ll have lots of pictures and info about all that πŸ™‚

School has officially consumed my life.

Yes, as the title states, my life has been taken over by school and studying. After seeing how badly I did on my math and science exams, I am HAULING ASS to do whatever I can to improve those marks. Also in english, I almost got excellence and I know exactly what I need to work on to be able to get there.

I’ve set myself specific targets to study and aim for. I know I can get there, and that’s why I’m putting in the hard yards.

I’ve started getting up half an hour earlier at 6.20 am so I have time to study in the morning, and I’ve given up my lunchtimes for lunchtime math tutorials and soon to be science tutorials if I can fit them in. I’m going to start staying behind for an hour or so after school for Maths as well, plus an hour of study once I get home.

I have never ever been so committed and motivated to achieving well in any kind of exam. I’m proud of myself because I know that if I keep this up, I WILL achieve and I WILL pass those exams with merit or hopefully higher. It’s all about how much you’re willing to put in. As the saying goes: You get out what you put in.

I’ve almost passed level one anyway. I was a little offended today in deans assembly at school when they growled us for only 12 out of the 250 odd students having already gained level one. You need 80 credits to get level one and I have 56, BUT, I have only been offered 60 so even if I had passed everything, I wouldn’t have level one yet!

I was a bit irked for being told off for something I have no control over.

Anyway, my life outside of school?

Running has taken a bit of a break for now… I’m taking a rest day in between runs because my hip isn’t 100% better yet. I think it’s really helping. I’m also doing lots of stretches as the doctor suggested and I’m only doing very slow 5k runs.

I pushed the boundaries today though and decided to do a very intense 35 minute interval training workout.

I had 10 songs on my ipod playlist, the first and last are about 5 minutes long and the first one is for a warm up, the last for a warm down. My warm ups and warm downs are just a slow jog for the duration for the song.

For the rest of the 8 songs, I did something different for each one. Switching between sprints, strength training (lunges and squats whilst holding weights), skipping with a skipping rope, knee-to-chest skipping and jogging.

I love this kind of workout because it’s fun and interesting and makes time go by SO much quicker which is good. Also it targets multiple muscle groups and has a variety of demands which is really good if you want to see quick results and an increase in fitness.

I feel good now, my hips not too bad. I stretched it really well after. My calf muscles are a bit stiff from the skipping rope, but it was a sweet workout and I’ll probably do it again on Monday.

I have a race on Sunday! As mentioned in previous posts. And that’s if you can count a fun run/walk a race lol. Oh well, i’m going just to have fun and get a good workout. Also so I’ll be running with OTHER PEOPLE for once! I always run by myself and it gets lonely after a while.

I’d love to meet people with common interest.

Interval training was a particularly good choice today because lately I have found that with long runs, my legs have been getting extremely sore and tired about 3k’s in, which is NOT good. I’m not sure why but it’s freaking me out. A little interval training is good to strengthen my legs and increase fitness which will hopefully help stop that problem.

I did something today that I have forgotten to do before all my last few runs…. I put on sunblock!!!! πŸ˜€ Yes that’s right, I slathered my arms, face and chest with SPF 45 sunblock.

I was urged to after seeing how quickly I’m tanning up. I never usually tan this early into the season, but baby I am BROWN! I realized that given how often and how long I’m exposed to the sun, I really need to start being more careful with skin care. So from now on, sunblock it is!

I was really grateful too because the sun was beating down on me so hard for the full 35 minutes and for once, I didn’t have to worry and kick myself for not wearing sunblock πŸ™‚ I felt safe and protected.

Anyway, that’s pretty much what’s up in my life as of right now. I have more to say but I’ll post it all in separate posts so they’re not so long.
