Christmas Day Recap!

Happy New Year! It’s New Years eve and I can hardly believe it… This year has just flown past, and to tell you the truth, I could not be HAPPIER about it!!! I hope the next two years pass as quickly.

Anyway, here’s some photos from Christmas Day. I’d type out a whole blog about it but that’ll take ages lol, and I’m feeling lazy.

It started in Hamilton at Dad’s house. All of us got up early to go open presents, Daniel had TONS of gifts including a PSP, which is something he’s been wishing for for ages now, and here’s a pic of him in the middle of his victory dance when he opened it hahaha.

This is so cute 🙂

After that, we all piled into the car to travel up to Auckland to meet up with more family.

It took us TWO AND A HALF HOURS to get there, instead of the usual 1 and a half hours because traffic was so bad!!

Aside from that, it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed taking photos of scenery and such.

One we got there, we greeted everybody, then headed into the family room to open more presents.

After presents, it was FOOD TIME! 😀

And time to take photos of Aunty Debbie’s glass of bubbles 🙂

Here’s a photo of us all at lunch.

After lunch, there was pudding, tea, chocolate and swimming 🙂

Then it was time for the compulsory walk along the beach, where we stopped to take family photos:

The scenery was great and so it gave me the perfect opportunity to test my camera out as best I could.

I was in photography HEAVEN!

We had some good fun on the beach, it was so packed! Like an Australian beach! haha. We took some more good family photos and Dad and I barely put our cameras down the whole time.

On the way back we took some more family shots.

I love these three photos that I took of Lee, Daniel and Holly. The lighting is so so good and I think these three shots are my three favorites of the entire day.

Once we got home, Lee, Holly and I grabbed a chilled lemon lime and bitters and chillaxed on the trampoline. There was lots of lazing around and enjoying the tremendous sun and heat.

The rest of the evening was really low-key. We had small dinners coz we were all still stuffed from lunch.

The evening basically consisted of television, ice cream, chocolate and playing with new presents 🙂

Perfect way to end an evening.

I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow because I was so tired from such a busy day.

I hope you enjoyed this post! It took me all day to write it up and all week to gain the motivation to do it lol.

Next post will be 2010 resolutions 🙂 Have a very very Happy New Year everybody!

A very merry christmas from my family to yours :)

I hope you all had a magical christmas, filled with love, family, friends, presents, great food and fun 🙂

due to restricted access to a computer, and needing to sort through hundreds of photos first, I won’t have a proper recount of my beautiful Christmas for a couple more days. Until then, I leave you with this, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you from my lovely Whanau 🙂

(that’s me and dad)

Have a fabulous day!

I could be a food photographer!

MAN I had some good breakfast eats yesterday 😀

It was Berry and Hazelnut Granola with Greek Yoghurt. Nom nom nom!! Frequent readers will know that I LOVE Granola, and I haven’t actually had any in a couple of months now.

I was going to do a post blogging all my eats for the day, but by snack time I’d forgotten to take pictures lol.

I did get some funky shots of my brothers hot chocolate:

As the title states: I could be a food photographer! haha. I love photographing food, honestly. I don’t know why and what it is about it but of all things, food is my favourite to take pictures of.

I had my second physio appointment yesterday.

It went well. I got a sweet massage on my sore hip and he gave me a few extra stretch moves and strength exercises for me to do. I’ll be going back next week for another appointment to loosen up my quad muscles.

I may have to take up to 4 weeks off running 😦 I’m sad about it, but I don’t mind because if I ran now I’d just worsen my injury and prolong recovery. After those 4 weeks, the hip will be better and will never bother me again and my knees should be better as well.

Until then, I must stick to strength exercises, swimming and stretching. Nothing else.

I hate swimming, but for the good of my health (literally) I’m going to stick it out. I’m going for another swim today just because I’ve only spent 3 days exercising out of the 8 that I’ve been here.

It’s more conveniant now too coz I can ride dad’s scooter there and back (and pray to sweet jesus that I don’t die at the big intersections :S)

Anyway, that’s that.

OH! I have a new tumblr account. Check it out here.

It’s strictly for my photography and to be honest, probably not a lot more than you see here, but it just looks a little fancier 🙂

I’ll be back later on with a 2010 Resolutions post so stay tuned for that!

Have a great Christmas Eve 🙂

Tis the season!

Gosh, I love christmas 🙂 Although, I still believe that the weeks leading up to the big day is actually more exciting than the day itself.

My favourite part is getting to see all my family again. It’s the one time of year that we all come together and it’s the best thing ever.

Yesterday we finally put up our tree. It’s pretty rugged to be honest. It’s endured years and year of abuse from the cats, and now it’s so broken it has to be tied to the fireplace to keep up upright lol.

I spent about half an hour trying to make it look pretty last night. Trust me, before it looked like it does in the photo above, it was uggggllllyyy!

We also put fairy lights up all around our lounge, kitchen, dining room and outside patio area, it looks so nice! Especially outside. Man I love the festivities of Christmas.

Anyway, it’s sort of a new tradition for me personally now to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show this time each year. It started back in 2007 and it’s kind of stuck 🙂

So yesterday, I was home alone so I snuggled up with my cat to watch it. I actually ended up watching Shock Treatment- the sequel to Rocky Horror, which just means I get to watch Rocky another time 🙂

Me and Jazz enjoyed lots of kitten cuddles.

She’s so cute 🙂

Regarding my post yesterday about today’s run, I decided not to do it. It took me a long time to make my decision, and in fact I had gotten up at 6.30 am, put on my workout clothes, dug out my knee sleeve, ate my pre-run breakfast, charged my ipod and was about to head out the door before I changed my mind. I think that resting today is a good idea because if I run through my injury I could prolong it and it might get worse and take even longer to heal.

I plan to swim today instead (I HATE swimming, but hey, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do) to burn up all the extra energy I have from carb loading last night and such.

I think I’ll wait till the day warms up a bit.

I hate skipping runs, but this time it’s necessary. It’s not like I’m going to gain any weight from taking one extra day’s rest. I won’t lose any fitness or endurance.

It’s just what I need to do.

I’m REALLY excited for my 5k run that I’m doing on Tuesday! After 3 days of rest, I’ll have “fresh legs”, which means I’ll be running SO fast and I’ve got a feeling I may even PR 🙂

Anyway, have a great day!

Staying on track throughout the holidays

Ok, so I’m going away for christmas to spend time with some family that I don’t often get to see. Some of which I haven’t seen since christmas in 2007!

And let me tell you, I am VERY excited 😀 I can’t wait! Although, part of me is a little nervous about how I’m going to go with exercising away from home. I’ve decided to take this on board as a challenge and think of it positively and learn from this, rather than freaking out about falling off the exercise bandwagon.

I read a really really useful post yesterday on Oh She Glows about staying on track during the holidays, and I’m so glad I did because there were some really helpful tips that I will be using.

Firstly, I’ve written out a gear list specifically for exercise, so that I’ll have everything I need to go out for a run or a swim or anything else. So far I have this:

  • Running gear, e.g: shoes, socks, shorts (multiple pairs), sports bra, multiple pairs of sports tops, knee sleeve.
  • Ipod + Ipod case
  • Skipping rope
  • Togs
  • Weights
  • Hydration Pack
  • Mesh Hat
  • Goggles
  • Sports Watch

I know that seems like a lot, and it IS! But it’s all really important to making sure I stay successful and consistant with my exercise during the holiday season. I may shorten the list, or I may not. I know that two areas will definitely be staying and that is gear required for running and swimming.

My cousins house has a swimming pool, so if ever I’m unable to head out for a run during the three days I’ll be at their place, I can just swim laps in their pool for a while.

I’m really excited about this and can’t wait! I’ll be tackling Hamiltons hills when I’m there, my running schedule I hope will stay as consistant as possible. I’ll use MapMyRun to work out routes and speed won’t be an issue as there is a huge park right behind Dad’s house.

I’ll keep you posted!

Anyway, this morning I got up at 20 past 6 and did some speedwork.

it was a truly beautiful morning and the perfect temperature.

I was very tired and it was a little bit chilly at first. I did a warm up by jogging around the track then stretching. After that, it was time to haul ass around that track 8 times as fast as I could go.

My hip now hurts so badly I can’t walk. This is BAD. I won’t be doing this kind of speed work again until I speak to Gaz, my trainer. I think it’s because of my running style. Obviously, if you read this post, you know that I visited Gaz and we discovered that there’s a lot I need to improve on in my running technique and that’s why I’ve been getting hip pain.

With speed work, for me, I find it extremely difficult to maintain proper running form. Firstly, you’re sprinting, so it just throws everything out of whack anyway when you’re used to endurance and secondly, you get tired much, much faster, and when I’m tired, whether it be on a long run or in sprints, it’s really difficult to keep my technique together instead of just letting go and slipping back into old habits.

So today I struggled with proper form, and so as a result, badly hurt my hip 😦

I iced it for a solid hour and I think it helped, but I still can’t walk.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I’m going to go email Gaz now and see what he has to say.

Do you have any suggestions on how to stay on track during the holidays?

Project Glow update

hey guys 🙂

Have you all been enjoying this beautiful sun?!?! I know I have. I’m sorry to say, but my blog updates will probably be less frequent. The sun calls to me and I’m far more interested in enjoying the beautiful sunshine outside than anything to do with the computer.

Right, now onto what’s important:

Project Glow update!

I’m happy to say that after 6 days, I am seeing some fabulous results. the skin on my face seems to have so much more of a natural “glow” to it. Also, after chucking out that awful Clearasil, I’ve had far less breakouts. I’m so pleased!!

I never expected this to work like I had wanted it to, and after drinking a Green Monster everyday, exfoliating with an exfoliation glove + face wash every couple of days, washing my face twice daily and making sure to use correct face moisturizer, I’ve seen FABULOUS results.

I’d definitely recommend this plan to anybody wishing to try a more organic/natural approach to acne management. I’m not saying it’ll work for everyone, but it’s worked for me.

UNFORTUNATELY, and I’m not too happy about this… But I’ve decided to take Doxy again until after Christmas.

This is because my christmas plans have changed and instead of staying in Whakatane with Mum and the rest of them, I’ve chosen to go to Auckland with Dad and my brother and sister to meet up with more of our family. I’m so so SO excited about this because last time we did this, it wound up being the best christmas I’ve ever had 🙂

Anyway, I haven’t seen these family members in a very long time and the last time they saw me, I was considerably fatter with really nasty skin. This time, I want them to see me and be amazed at how different I look and how much healthier I look and feel.

This means I want beautiful, clear skin, and the only way I’m guaranteed to get that is by going on Doxy. It’s because when I go away I always break out. Sounds weird, but it’s inevitable. Doxy can help stop that.

I’ll still be continuing on with all the natural steps of Project Glow, I’ll just be taking Doxy as well until just after Xmas.

Sad thing about going away to Aucks for christmas is that I will miss this:

😦 I will miss him. A LOT!

Rewinding back a bit to Green Monsters, I am LOVING them and I’m so so impressed by how much they’ve helped me and increased my energy and general well-being, tomorrow I’ll do a special blog post about it to go into more depth.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I got a really nice trim today and I coloured my hair dark brown again. I had scody regrowth.

All part of the big transformation for my cousins and aunties, uncles and grandparents to be shocked by! 😀

Hope you’re all enjoying summer.

Hey there, my name's Jenny. I have a huge passion for cooking/baking, writing, yoga and photography. I love nature and my favourite thing to do is spend an entire day outside, breathing in crisp, fresh air. Even better if I have a pen and paper with me. I started out running in March 2009 but sustained an injury in October 2009 which has unfortunately prevented me from running. I've been experimenting with other kinds of exercise to find another one that clicks. Follow me on my journey to maintaining good health + surviving high school and pursuing a career in Journalism. I Hope you enjoy reading my blog!
