The perfect Saturday

Today has been an EXCELLENT day! I’m so pleased because nothing makes Sunday’s when I’m working during beautiful weather worse than knowing I wasted my Saturday (especially if there was great weather). We’ve finally had a weekend with sunshine and it’s so nice, I really wanted to make sure that I didn’t waste the opportunity and instead get outside and make the most of the sunshine and fresh air. I made plans with Kristine for the afternoon so the morning was spent with Mum. I took her with me to look at a ball dress I’ve had my eye on and I tried it on for her. I loved it even more than the first time so we decided to put it on lay-by… So exciting!! After that we went to the business and leisure show and got a few freebies. All in all though this years was a bit of a disappointment compared to last years :/ Mostly coz I didn’t get any free exercise class vouchers haha.  Day 3 of my mission to get in shape and get healthy before the ball has gone swimmingly! I’m so pleased and surprised at my overnight diet transformation. I haven’t had any issues with resisting temptation to gorge myself on high-sugar, high-fat foods like baking, chocolate and ice cream. It’s fantastic!!! At this rate I should be seeing some good results pretty quickly.

After returning from the Business and Leisure show I ate lunch quickly and then once Kristine had come over we head off to do the Bird Walk together. I’m so glad to have a friend who is just as passionate about healthy eating and exercise as I am. I’ve finally found my long-awaited exercise buddy! 😀 Maybe she’ll help me stay out of the exercise rut next winter? 😉

It was a great walk but my legs were really sore from a 5k run I did yesterday afternoon because I haven’t run in a while and so the stairs were rather unforgiving… Nevertheless we manage to have an excellent time, take some photos and get a good work out!

Yes, I wear overalls with a Veronicas tshirt and a backpack whilst hiking…

Kristine insisted on drinking the water lol. I did not encourage it haha.

We walked to town from there and then to the video shop where we rented “Boy” to watch when we got home.

I made us delicious smoothies with soy milk, cranberry juice, cinnamon, banana, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry. It. Was. AMAZING!!! We watched Boy while we drank our smoothies and it was the best way to relax and rest our legs after walking for 3 hours. I’d been getting pretty hungry too!

I’m working tomorrow but that’s ok because today was awesome ^.^

I hope you all enjoyed your Saturday as much as I did!

Exciting Holidays!!!

Apologies for being absent over the last couple of weeks, but I’ve been seriously preoccupied with my AMAZING holidays that I’ve been having 😀 I came down to Hamilton on Monday (one week ago) and spent three days with my Nana and Poppa, and a glorious three days it was…

When I arrived in Hamilton I was really reaaallly sick with some sort of Flu. I was having horrid symptoms and the bus trip over was tedious and I felt really nauseas from the flu, it was so so nice to go to Nana’s and have a nice, delicious hot meal waiting for me and have someone to take care of me. I loved the relaxing and quiet environment, it was a really great was to relax and de-stress after one incredibly hectic term.

On Thursday I went up to Auckland with Mum, Mark and my friend Lily to go to Rainbows End (theme park) and Ice Skating! Here are some photos of the highlights:

Then I decide to face my crazy-intense fear of heights and do the unthinkable…. Ride the FEAR FALL!

auckland 2010 041As you can see I wasn’t overjoyed at the thought…

That’s at the top. 18 STOREYS!!

We saw some AMAZINGLY talented Asian acrobats.

After Rainbows End we headed off to our hotel to relax and decide what we were going to do for the rest of the day and what we were going to have for dinner. We ended up walking about 3 Kilometers from our Hotel to the supermarket to get heaps of eats. I won’t recall what they were because they weren’t overly healthy… Haha.

Here’s the view from my room in the Hotel:

auckland 2010 077 And the next morning…

auckland 2010 081

We went ICE SKATING too which was an all new experience for me, I’ve never ever been before. It was freeezing inside, much colder than I expected, and it was an amazing environment to be in with professional skaters skating around and small children who’d had a lot of practice and were really really good.

We were pretty excited to get on the Ice 😀

auckland 2010 087

I wasn’t very good… Lol. Mum said I needed to work on my “Gracefulness”

auckland 2010 093

We all enjoyed ourselves, and we were offered a free lesson…

auckland 2010 094

It was quite helpful and I learnt a lot. We also got an awesome demonstration from the Coach who’s a New Zealand Ice Skating Representative!! 😀 I was happy to leave though, I’d had enough of it.

We returned back to our Hotel room for lunch and then Mum, Lily and I went to Queen Street to go shopping. I experienced the incredibleness of my new favourite shop… Real Groovy. It is AMAZING!!!! It sells books, DVDs, Clothing and a whole bunch of other random stuff that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. The books, CDs and DVDS that they sell are things that nowhere else stock, so they have really rare items. Within the store there’s a vintage clothing shop called “Peachy Keen” and they sell absolutely incredible vintage clothing. Once we left we headed to another Road to find the other Peachy Keen store to shop for more clothing. I bought the cutest little vintage sweater I’ve ever seen. Later that afternoon we went to see Shrek Forever After in 3D and it was really good! I highly recommend it 🙂

I came back to Hamilton on Saturday morning and stayed the night with Nana again, then I went to Dad’s on Sunday and we went to go see Hamilton Operatic’s Miss Saigon and it was AMAZING!! My friend was in it and I was so happy to be able to go and watch him perform.

Today I went shopping and bought a great pair high-waisted shorts which I’m very very happy with and a nice warm jersey/jacket which I haven’t removed all day. I have so many awesome jackets, I think I may be obsessed lol.

Anyway, that’s the basic catch up of what I’ve been up to these holidays. I’ve recovered from the Flu happily enough and I plan to spend the next few days with my head down, studying for exams and completing two huge research projects that are due back at the start of term 2. I hope the rest of you are enjoying your holidays!

Last night we had SIX earthquakes here in Whakatane, varying between 3 to 4.6 on the Richter scale. Now, I don’t know about you, but earthquakes freak me out!! The worst thing is that they always seem to happen at night as well, which is scary because I have this huge fear that an enormous natural disaster will happen at night time and destroy everything and it’ll be chaos in the dark :/ Sounds lame, but honestly, it freaks me out 😦

We also had 4 earthquakes while I was at school and 2 before hand.

I’m actually really concerned about how many earthquakes we HAVE been having. We have had around TWENTY TWO earthquakes since Sunday. That’s insane! I’m a worry-wart to begin with, but this has me seriously on edge. I don’t know what to expect, I don’t know whether these are just clusters that will pass, or whether it’s a build up to “the big one”….

Who knows…?

For now I’ll just try to chill and stay relatively positive. What will be will be I guess.

Some of you may know this, but my poor little bro was admitted to hospital on Sunday night with suspected Pneumonia but then after a couple of days they changed their diagnosis to Sinusitis.
He had to stay in hospital for four days until his temperature finally settled down, it reached heights of 41.2 degrees!!! That’s insane!!

He’s out of hospital now and is feeling quite a lot better, he’s perked up and his appetite has returned 🙂

He was so brave though!!

010  011

We’re keeping a watchful eye on him to make sure he stays well.

I went to the Bay Of Plenty Times on Tuesday for a work choice day school trip. I was so interested since I’m considering a career in Journalism. I was happy to find that it was exactly how I imagined it would be and so there were no disappointments 🙂 It’s crazy just how much work goes into producing one newspaper a week… It’s hectic! I liked that though, I like to be kept on my feet 🙂

Anyway, tonight I’m going to Jujitsu and then Body Combat and afterwards I’m babysitting! Phew! It’s going to be an exhausting night. Lets hope the Earthquakes lay off tonight so I can get some decent sleep!

Review of 2009

Hey everyone. I apologized once again for lack of posting, I’ve been pretty busy. I thought I’d fill some gaps by reviewing 2009 which I’m quite sure I haven’t already done. Firstly, I’m going to Hamilton for a day trip on Saturday 🙂 I’m so excited!! I haven’t seen my Dad since December last year and this Saturday is my only opportunity to see him before next holidays, which are ELEVEN weeks away :O My biggest concern is that once I get there, I might not come back lol.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I went to my first “proper” concert, The Veronicas 🙂 It was awesome!!

2. Did you keep your New Year’s Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I can’t remember what my 2009 resolutions were… But I know that when I went into the year I had goals I wanted to achieve and changes I wanted to make, and I know I achieved the majority of them.

This years resolutions are something like this:

Be less self-absorbed
Maintain my health and fitness
Stop taking things so personally
Learnt to be more tolerant
Find a way to earn money
Try to incorporate more strength training
Swim more
Continue to run once I gain the all clear from the physiotherapist.
So far I think I have done well to achieve the majority of them. Particularly the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. I’m going to add a new one right now- Take Action. That means that if I have a goal I want to achieve, to actually take productive steps to achieve them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not last year, but recently one of my best friends gave birth to her 3rd child 🙂

4. Did anyone close to you die?
A lot of people died last year 😦 Michael Jackson’s death really hit home because I’ve grown up listening to his music.

5. What countries did you visit?
None 😦 Most exotic place I travelled to was Auckland…

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
SUCCESS! I want to actually achieve some of my major goals. Also, I want to be more self-reliant and confident. I don’t want to spend time caring what others think of me.

7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Hmmm… There are a few. Definitely the Veronicas concert. That was an awesome night. Christmas was amazing. Drinks at Roberts back in May… That was awesome. Sending Tom back to Italy 😦 I cried for 5 hours straight!! Going on a day trip to Roto-Vegas with family and Tom. The night Dallas and I started our relationship.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Maintaining a successful and happy relationship.

9. What was your biggest failure?
The start of the year was pretty bad… In retrospect, I didn’t make very good decisions.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes 😦 My hip and both knees

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
My camera for christmas!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Not a whole lot to be honest

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
They shall go unnamed.

14. Where did most of your money go?
LOL, money! HA! What money??

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
There are a few 🙂

1. Starlight-Muse
2. Untouched- The Veronicas
3. Lemon- Katy Rose
4. Don’t Damn Me- Guns N’ Roses
5. Sir Psycho Sexy- Red Hot Chili Peppers
6. Nude- Radiohead
7. Slither- Velvet Revolver

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Definitely happier!!
b) fatter or skinner? Skinnier
c) richer or poorer? RICHER 🙂

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
Same way I spent it last year 🙂 With my family.

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Yes, it was great while it lasted.

22. How many one night stands?

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Was, is, and always will be, Sex & The City.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Not really. I’ve realized how strong the word “hate” is, and there really isn’t many people who fall into that category for me.

25. What was the best book you read?
Hands down, “Scar Tissue” by Anthony Kiedis

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

27. What did you want and get?
A camera! 😀

28. What did you want and not get?
more time with my family 😦

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Of 2009? Hmmm…. I don’t think I watched that many movies. Probably Girl, Interrupted. I know it wasn’t made in 2009 but it’s the first time I saw it and I loved it.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 15 and I spent it with my family.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Better stress management and less anger.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
I’m not really that fashionably :/

33. What kept you sane?
Music and Exercise.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmmm… That’s hard. Maybe Jess from the Veronicas.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
None really.

36. Who do you miss?
Right now? I miss Sam and Robert 😦

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Wow, I met loads of awesome people last year, I can’t pinpoint just one.

38. What was the best thing you ate?
Lol, there is absolutely no way that a foodie like me can answer a question like that covering the entire year.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009?
Appreciate your friends and family, genuine friends come few and far between and never take the love of your family for granted.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I don’t need other people’s words!

Packing for a trip to the Army

My bags are packed, and I’m ready to go!

I’m so excited that the Army Careers Experience has finally arrived!!! I’m so so excited about it, and I’m totally expecting to have a blast. I’m a little bit nervous but only because I’m stepping out of my comfort zone. I think this is a wonderful opportunity and I want to make the best of it that I can.

The gear list is loooongg:

But finally, after 5 days of organizing I have everything I need!

The bus departs Tauranga at 9.30am tomorrow morning and we’re leaving for Tauranga tonight to save me having to travel for an extra hour tomorrow. I got a phone call from the Tauranga Army Recruitment office earlier today, just confirming that I’m good to go and having sustained any injuries since the fitness test. She also told me that they want me and two others to write up a blog post for them at the end of the week, recapping the events of the ACE! How cool is that?! So when I return you can keep an eye out for that 😉 it’ll be posted to their Bebo page and I’ll post the link on here once it’s up.

By the way, Happy Easter guys!!!

I hope you all received yummy chocolate and hot crossed buns! Speaking of which, Mum made a delicious batch earlier:

How good do they look!?!

I had one…. But I can guarantee you that there’ll be more to come 😉

Here’s a little Easter video blog I put together earlier. I don’t know why I got cut off at the end?!? But oh well, I was going to record another one but changed my mind.

There you have it! I wish you all a very happy easter and I shall be back on Friday with a recap for you.

I don’t think you’re ready for this cuteness.

Honestly, you better prepare yourself….

LOOK what Mum, Sam and I got to visit today…

025  026

I honestly died and went to Pug Puppy HEAVEN! 😀

Friends of ours breed Pug’s and these babies are just 9 days old! They invited us over today to meet them for the first time. I took so many photos of the sleeping beauties 🙂 I thought they were incredible and beautiful and gorgeous but I don’t think I could have my own Pug. They require such an enormous level of commitment. They’re like caring for a new born baby. And I’m not just talking about the puppies, the adults too require a lot of attention. They follow you EVERYWHERE and can’t be trusted when they’re left alone.

I enjoyed spending this afternoon with them though 🙂 Meet the proud parents, Daisy and Harry!

036 Above is Harry, and below is Daisy 🙂

We enjoyed some cuddles and tricks with them.

Then it was back to the babies!

034 046

My brother had a great time 🙂

(Harry the pug actually really liked him. He barely left him alone all afternoon!)

039 I had a great time cuddling the fat sausage-like babies too.

To give you more of a perspective on how small these babies are, here’s a pen next to one that is looking super cute all curled up sleeping ^.^

Aren’t they cute?!? It’s insane!!! Mum and I are sure to be back in a couple of week when they’ve grown up a bit and are able to start playing. I’ve heard that that’s when they’re at their cutest. I can’t wait to snap more photos of them!

Anyway, on the way home our car broke down lol. Like, completely. It’s totally dead, the engine’s done with. Luckily it was a beautiful day!

Granddad came and picked up Sam and I and Mum waited for the AA to come and tow our car home. QUITE a way to finish a good day! I was happy to get home so I could blog all about the gorgeous Puppies 🙂
Today Mum also made bagels which I forgot to photograph 😦 But they taste great!

I was going to go for a run today but I’m vastly running out of time. Ellen is on in an hour and I can’t wait! If I have enough time after that I might go. This day ended up being more jam-packed than I thought. Maybe I’ll just take a rest day?

Tomorrow is the opening of the relocated gym I go to so I’ll be going there to check it out.

Catch you later!

Grandma Penny’s Surprise birthday part recap… FINALLY!

Hey everyone! I’ve finally gotten around to being able to post this blog post haha.

Firstly, I have some good news! Today I participated in P.E 100% and it was INTERVAL TRAINING! Sprints! I was nervous and made a bad mistake of choosing to run without shoes, but I managed to complete the whole session.

The session included:

  • Thirteen 50 meter sprints with 1 minute intervals
  • Seventeen 10 meter sprints, starting with 1 minute intervals but ending in 30 second intervals due to time constraints.

As you can imagine, I was overly fast since I haven’t trained for speed in MANY months, but it felt amazing to just be doing it.

Anyway- As you guys know, on the 13th of February, my family and I threw my Grandma a surprise party at her house to celebrate her 70th birthday.

It was a huge success and everybody had an excellent time 😀 I couldn’t believe that the surprise actually worked because never in my life can I recall a surprise party actually going according to plan.

Anyway, my family had arranged for my uncle to take Grandma Penny out for a few hours at 2pm, giving us time to make the 1 hour trip and get the house sorted before the guests arrived at 4.30-5pm.

That went according to plan and Grant so skillfully took her to see “Avatar”, which was an excellent choice because it’s like 3 hours long lol.

We arrived on time and started setting up. I bought a packed lunch with me because I’d hit the gym hard that morning:

  • 20 minute run on the treadmill
  • 5 minute interval training on spin bike
  • 20 minute stationary bike ride
  • 5 minutes rowing
  • 20 minutes on the cross trainer
  • 5 minutes on the spin bike again
  • 10 minutes strength
  • 15 minute stretch

So you see, I knew I was bound to get hungry.

We set up the birthday banners, the food (what we’d bought. It was a pot-luck dinner), the wine, the glasses etc.

Eventually guests started arriving and it was drawing nearer and nearer to the time of Grandma Penny’s arrival. Everyone was super excited when we received the phone call from Grant to say they were almost home.

Then she arrived home…

🙂 It was PRICELESS!!! She couldn’t believe it, she was so shocked she started shaking.

I caught this legendary facial shot after she’d gone around and greeted all the guests.

This photo basically captures the essence of her that night.

The guests began to mingle, I had some wonderful chats with the guests and I was assigned as “official party photographer” and was instructed to go around taking photos of everyone and everything. Here we go:

Mum and Colleen,

Mum and Lynn,

My sister, Penny,

Te Mania, my Nephew 🙂

The view from Grandma Penny’s house.

Grandma Penny and her friend.

A wine glass.

Then I asked to have a few family photos.

Mum, Sam and I.

Mum and I

Me and Penny.

After some photos, it was dinner time!!!
There was an impressive amount and variety of food.

I chose to have some rice with thai chicken, some of my sisters Lasagna, a slice of pizza, a piece of bacon and egg pie and some Salad.

I did end up going back for seconds of things. Specifically the bacon and egg pie and salad 🙂

Soon after it was time for my favourite…. PUDDING!!! 😀 The selection was AMAZING.

I chose to have two different kinds of cheesecake and a scoop of Ambrosia. The yellow cheesecake was INCREDIBLE! It was so so so good, I want the recipe!

Shortly after that the clouds started rolling in…

Made for a good photo though:

Eventually people started winding down and leaving.

The night ended with a very happy (and drunk) Grandma Penny 🙂

I caught this amazing photo of the Tauranga city lights…

The next day we had a great time. Our big family group went to the Mount and went out for lunch. (We originally had plans for the beach but in the morning the weather did not permit…)

We passed this GORGEOUS puppy, it was a cross between a Chihuahua and a Poodle 🙂 adorable. We stopped to pat it for ages.

We agreed on a Turkish restaurant for lunch. I didn’t like it very much because the waiter was extremely rude and used nasty language. I ordered a chai latte (as usual) and Grandma Penny ordered a huge platter for us all to share.

My chai latte was a huge let down. It came with some weird, lumpy foam stuff on top…. didn’t know what was up with that and it tasted absolutely revolting. I scooped it all off and put it on my side dish. It looked like dog vomit.

I had a bite of my sisters Lamb kebab, THAT tasted good. I must admit, the food was divine because the platter tasted incredible too.

We couldn’t stay long, our family had to go our separate ways as we were all on tight schedules. Penny, Temania, Colleen and Jade all went back to Hamilton, Grant went back to Grandma Penny’s house and Mum, Mark, Sam, Grandma Penny and I all went to Otumoetai to go visit our old dog Tai 🙂

It was so great to see him!!! He recognized us and was so excited he was jumping up to us and running around like a mad thing. It totally made my day. It also made me miss him HEAPS!!!

We couldn’t stay long, we had to get back to Whakatane. I was an excellent trip and I got to come home and spend the rest of Valentine’s Day with Dallas 🙂

There you have it! Finally finished this recap haha. Been a long time coming. Hope you guys like it! I’ll have some SG’s up in the morning.
