Last night I went to Zumba, a different class from the one I’ve gone to in the past (I usually go to zumba at my gym but I don’t really enjoy it. It lacks that “party” atmosphere), but it was the first class I ever went to for zumba. Remember this post? The first time I went I didn’t really enjoy it because it wasn’t intense enough. I like exercise that really gets my heart rate up and pumping and until last night, I’d never achieved that with Zumba. ‘

Last nights class was awesome! I actually had so much fun and loved (almost) every second. Within the very first song my heart rate was up and I was having a good time, I enjoyed the full hour length first session, and nearly enjoyed all of the second session. I stayed for both sessions with my friend Lily and I think it was a bit much. During the second session my knees began to really really hurt and it made it extremely difficult to give everything my all. I also started to get super hungry and when I get hungry it’s impossible to exercise so I began to drag my feet a little.

Never fear though, there are ways to combat those two problems, firstly: Come prepared with Ibuprofen and Panadol to take either before the first session or halfway through so that my knees don’t hurt and secondly: Eat a better meal beforehand and come prepared with snacks to stay fuelled.

I brought my camera to take photos but I forgot amongst the fun and hype 😦 I’m going again on Monday night (for both sessions) so I’ll try and get a photo then 🙂 I came home from Zumba last night and INHALED my dinner. I could barely wait the 5 minutes it took to heat it up in the microwave, I was so hungry I was about to chew off my arm. I would’ve showered first because I was super sweaty but my stomach just could not wait that long! haha.

I slept like a log last night and was happy to find that when I woke this morning I didn’t have any sore muscles. I was worried I pulled a muscle or something but all was fine 🙂

I would definitely recommend this Zumba class for anyone looking for a fun way to workout. It was the most fun I’ve had working out in a long time. Today I plan to either go to the gym or just take it easy with some Pilates. Maybe I’ll walk the dog and do Pilates? I’d really like to get some fresh air.

Anyway, check out this cool new website. I read about it on Caitlin’s blog and thought it was so cool! It’s called Healthy Living Blogs and it’s a place where different healthy living blogs from all over the world can be listed.

You can sign up to have your blog listed by clicking on the “members” tab and following the instructions.

Anyway, I’m exhausted and it’s only 9am! Aside from Pilates and dog-walking I’ll probably just take it easy.

Here’s a photo of Kristine and I on Mufti Day at school on Thursday. See you guys later! 🙂

Day 1- Your Favourite Song

Anyone who knows me will be aware of just how difficult this question is for me to answer. I love so many bands and truly appreciate each and every one of them and the music the create.
Amongst my favourite bands are: (first and foremost) Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beirut, Radiohead, Guns N’ Roses and more.

It’s hard to define any song as a “favourite” because each of the songs I enjoy are enjoyable because they each create different emotions in me and stir up new thoughts and feelings. Some make me nostalgic, some make me sad, some make me happy and some make me laugh.

So instead of stating just one favourite, I thought I’d list a few of my favourites (in no particular order):

1. Nude- Radiohead. In short, this song makes me feel relaxed, takes me to my happy place and makes me feel incredible comfortable just the way I am… It’s a hard thing for another to understand, but it’s an amazing feeling.

2. Wet Sand- Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are my favourite band, that’s something I just won’t compromise. This song is a melancholy song that reminds me of my best friend Emma. When I listen to it I feel like I’m sitting on a rock down and the heads in summer time with wind blowing through my hair and Emma by my side.  It also reminds me of why I love Anthony Kiedis…

3. Don’t Forget Me- Red Hot Chili Peppers. This song makes me sad and want to cry just a little bit… But it’s special because it helped me get through a LOT of emotionally challenging times. This song reminds me of Tommaso, my Italian Exchange student brother who we hosted for 5 months last year. I was distraught when he left, and this song reminds me of him. Anthony has always been there to guide me through to the sunny side.

4. You’re So Cool- Hans Zimmer. This is the theme song to one of my favourite movies, “True Romance”. It makes me think of love, affection, hope and optimism. I listen to this whenever I’m having a bad day and it helps cheer me up just that little bit.

And there you have it! My top four favourite songs. I’m sure there are others, but I’ll be here all day listing them 😛

Every one of the songs I love have a special and personal meaning to me that spark emotions inside me. I can relate them back to any experience I’ve had, some good, some not so good. But hey, that’s what make them interesting 🙂

Drop me a comment with your thoughts or your favourite song/songs. I’d love to hear 🙂

Food for thought.

Morning all! Hope you’re all excited and have some amazing plans for this beautiful Saturday morning 🙂

I love Saturdays. They’re by far my favourite day of the week, and as of this year the only day I have completely off! :O That’s because of school and that I work on Sunday’s now.

Anyway, last night I had an excellent gym session.

I was very excited to go! 🙂 (btw, do you like the new hairdo? dyed it black and got it cut)

I hadn’t been in THREE DAYS and so it had to be good. I had a fabulous cross-training workout which consisted of:

  • 2 minute walk warmup on the treadmill
  • 10 minute run on the treadmill
  • 5 minutes interval training on the spin bike (10 seconds of high resistance followed by 20 seconds recovery with low resistance)
  • 10 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 10 minutes on the rowing machine
  • 10 minutes on the Elliptical
  • 5 minutes spin bike interval training

I then did about a minute of skipping, a few press-ups and some hip strengthening exercises before coming home. The whole thing took about an hour and 20 minutes or so.

Today I reeeeaaallly need to go for a swim :/ Swimming sports is on Thursday and I’m no where near prepared for it. I’ll either try to fit one in before 10am (because we’re hosting a Japanese exchange student for 12 days and they have some activities planned at the beach at this time) or this afternoon.

I didn’t do the triathlon that I had planned for the 12th if anybody noticed. I came to the conclusion that I was simply ill-prepared.

ANYWAY! Moving on, as the subject line reads, here’s some food for thought..

I’ve discovered that with my body, when I have a more stabilizing, solid breakfast that somehow incorporates 2 eggs and 2 pieces of bread or toast, it sets me up for the whole day and I snack less on sugary foods and junk.

My usual morning breakfast is either French Toast with a dribble of maple syrup and a handful of frozen blueberries on each slice, or scrambled eggs on toast with the same toppings. I also try to fit in a piece of fruit somewhere along the line.

I have found that this breakfast is the only thing that keeps me full. Come interval and I’m still not hungry! it’s fantastic because then my interval snacks are enough to carry me happily over to lunch time.

Here’s the breakfast I had this morning:

As usual, eggs and carbs 🙂 I hate people who claim that carbohydrates are bad.. That’s such crap in my opinion. I eat a ton of carbs because that’s what my body craves and I’ve LOST weight! You need carbohydrates to help keep you full and give you more energy, if you’re eating the right sort of carbs (wholegrains etc) then it’s not a problem!

Another thing is that I’ve decided to switch to a different Physiotherapist. And not just within the business, I mean an entirely different clinic. I have some serious issues with the very rude and unintelligent receptionist who has caused me more problems than I care to deal with, and I just can’t stand that revolting tongue bar she flashes around when she grins when she realized she completely screwed something up.

I have my first physio appointment with my new physio on Monday afternoon. Here’s hoping it works out!

I’m reading “Scar Tissue” by Anthony Kiedis again. It’s an incredible and inspiring autobiography, I think I’m more in love with it this time round than I was the first.

the Red Hot Chili Peppers are just so darn talented. They keep producing incredible music, over and over again. I heard rumours that there’s a new album on it’s way out this year, and I reeaallly hope that’s true! They’re my favourite band and I would die to see them live.

They’re also really really funny 🙂 That’s something you’ll notice if you read AK’s book.

Check out this video clip for “Hump De Bump”, I love it! It cracks me up 😀 and seeing AK with grills… lol, no words….

What sort of foods do you eat to keep to full and sustained longer?

Red Hot Chili Peppers.. Makes me a little teary.

As most of you probably know, my favourite band is Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are pretty much all I listen to 95% of the time, I can never get enough of them and part of the reason is because their music is so touching… it means so much to me and some of their songs are so powerful, they bring tears to my eyes.

I want to share with you some of my favourite lyrics from different RHCP songs.

“All I want is for you to be happy
And take this moment to make you my family
And finally you have found something perfect
And finally you have found…

“And want to treasure the rest of your days here
And give you pleasure in so many ways, dear
And finally you have found something perfect
And finally you have found…
Here we go.”

“Read me your scripture and
Read me your scripture
Read me your scripture and I will twist it

Show me your wrist and I
Show me your wrist and
Show me your wrist and I’ll kiss it kiss it”

“Twisting and turning
Your feelings are burning
You’re breaking the girl
She meant you no harm
Think you’re so clever
But now you must sever
You’re breaking the girl
He loves no one else”

“Marry me girl be my ferry to the world
Be my very own constellation
A teenage bride with a baby inside
Getting high on information
And buy me a star on the boulevard
It’s Californication”

“Destruction leads to a very rough road
But it also breeds creation
And earthquakes are to a girl’s guitar
They’re just another good vibration
And tidal waves couldn’t save the world
From Californication”

“Push me up against the wall
Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra
Fallin’ all over myself
To lick your heart and taste your health ’cause
With the birds I’ll share”

“Blood loss in a bathroom stall
Southern girl with a scarlet drawl
Wave good-bye to ma and pa ’cause
With the birds I’ll share”

“Soft spoken with a broken jaw
Step outside but not to brawl
Autumn’s sweet we call it fall
I’ll make it to the moon if I have to crawl and…”

“Just one note could make me float,
Could make me float away,
One note from,
The song she wrote,
Could f*ck me where I lay,
Just one note,
Could make me choke,
One note that’s,
Not a lie,
Just one note,
Could cut my throat,
One note could make
me die.”

“Pour my life into a paper cup
The ashtray’s full and I’m spillin’ my guts
She wants to know am I still a slut
I’ve got to take it on the otherside”

“A scarlet starlet and she’s in my bed
A candidate for my soul mate bled
I push the trigger and I pull the thread
I’ve got to take it on the otherside
Take it on the otherside
Take it on
Take it on”

“Turn me on, take me for a hard ride
Burn me out, leave me on the otherside
I yell and tell it that It’s not my friend
I tear it down, I tear it down
And then it’s born again”

“My friends are so depressed
I feel the question of your loneliness
Confide…’cause I’ll be on your side
You know I will, you know I will

Ex-girlfriend called me up
Alone and desperate on the prison phone
They want to give her seven years
For being sad

I love all of you
Hurt by the cold
So hard and lonely too
When you don’t know yourself

My friends are so distressed
And standing on the brink of emptiness
No words I know of to express
This emptiness”

“Can’t stop addicted to the shin dig
chop chop he says I’m gonna win big
choose not a life of imitation
distant cousin to the reservation
defunkt the pistol that you pay for
this punk the felling that you stay for
in time I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the Westend
knock out but boy you better come to
don’t die you know the truth is some do
go write your message on the pavement
burnin’ so bright I wonder what the wave meant
white heat is screaming in the jungle
complete the motion if you stumble
go ask the dust for any answers
come back strong with 50 belly dancers”

“I thought about it
and I brought it out
I’m motivated by the lack of doubt
I’m consecrated but I’m not devout
The mother, the father, the daughter, yeah

Right on the verge, just one more dose
I’m traveling from coast to coast
My theory isn’t perfect, but it’s close

I’m almost there, why should I care
My heart is hurting when I share
Someone open up and
let it show”

“Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away”

“We all want to tell her
Tell her that we love her
Venice gets a queen
Best I’ve ever seen
We all want to kiss her
Tell her that we miss her
Venice gets a queen
Best I’ve ever

I know you said you don’t believe
In God do you still disagree
Now that it’s time for you to leave
Is love my friend
My friend, my friend

Your stylish mess of silver hair
A woman of your kind is rare
Your uniform returns to air
Is love my friend
My friend, my friend

And now it’s time for you to go
You taught me most of all I know
Where would I be without you Glo
Is love my friend
My friend, my friend

I see you standing by the sea
The waves you made will always be
Your kiss goodbye before you leave
Is love my friend
My friend, my friend”

“Bells around St. Petersburg
When I saw you

I hope I get what you deserve
And this is where I find

Smoke surrounds your perfect face
And I’m falling

Pushing a broom out into space
And this where I find the way”
