Obsession with Sunsets….

It has been brought to my attention that I may have a small obsession with Sunsets.

And don’t even get me started on Sun RISES…. But anyway, I think you get my drift? To be honest, the reason I love them is because of the colours. Every night is different and the colours are always incredible. It’s my second favourite part of each day πŸ™‚ (first is sunrise. nothing beats that)

Anyway, not much to talk about tonight, mainly that I’m going to a body pump class tomorrow morning, I’m very excited about it, that class always boosts my motivation!

Also, I had a fun night of snacking tonight. It was great, I ate ALL the food I was craving and didn’t feel guilty because…. I had very small amounts of each πŸ™‚ It was awesome and I shall continue to snack in that fashion when I’m craving sweets.

Creative Photo

As I just mentioned in my previous blog, I don’t have alot of photos in posts these days.. So to help encourage my photographic creativity again and add some colour and sparkle to my website, I’m going to try and take at least one creative photo each day to post on here. Today’s the first day πŸ™‚

Grandma Penny’s Surprise birthday part recap… FINALLY!

Hey everyone! I’ve finally gotten around to being able to post this blog post haha.

Firstly, I have some good news! Today I participated in P.E 100% and it was INTERVAL TRAINING! Sprints! I was nervous and made a bad mistake of choosing to run without shoes, but I managed to complete the whole session.

The session included:

  • Thirteen 50 meter sprints with 1 minute intervals
  • Seventeen 10 meter sprints, starting with 1 minute intervals but ending in 30 second intervals due to time constraints.

As you can imagine, I was overly fast since I haven’t trained for speed in MANY months, but it felt amazing to just be doing it.

Anyway- As you guys know, on the 13th of February, my family and I threw my Grandma a surprise party at her house to celebrate her 70th birthday.

It was a huge success and everybody had an excellent time πŸ˜€ I couldn’t believe that the surprise actually worked because never in my life can I recall a surprise party actually going according to plan.

Anyway, my family had arranged for my uncle to take Grandma Penny out for a few hours at 2pm, giving us time to make the 1 hour trip and get the house sorted before the guests arrived at 4.30-5pm.

That went according to plan and Grant so skillfully took her to see “Avatar”, which was an excellent choice because it’s like 3 hours long lol.

We arrived on time and started setting up. I bought a packed lunch with me because I’d hit the gym hard that morning:

  • 20 minute run on the treadmill
  • 5 minute interval training on spin bike
  • 20 minute stationary bike ride
  • 5 minutes rowing
  • 20 minutes on the cross trainer
  • 5 minutes on the spin bike again
  • 10 minutes strength
  • 15 minute stretch

So you see, I knew I was bound to get hungry.

We set up the birthday banners, the food (what we’d bought. It was a pot-luck dinner), the wine, the glasses etc.

Eventually guests started arriving and it was drawing nearer and nearer to the time of Grandma Penny’s arrival.Β Everyone was super excited when we received the phone call from Grant to say they were almost home.

Then she arrived home…

πŸ™‚ It was PRICELESS!!! She couldn’t believe it, she was so shocked she started shaking.

I caught this legendary facial shot after she’d gone around and greeted all the guests.

This photo basically captures the essence of her that night.

The guests began to mingle, I had some wonderful chats with the guests and I was assigned as “official party photographer” and was instructed to go around taking photos of everyone and everything. Here we go:

After some photos, it was dinner time!!!
There was an impressive amount and variety of food.

I chose to have some rice with thai chicken, some of my sisters Lasagna, a slice of pizza, a piece of bacon and egg pie and some Salad.

I did end up going back for seconds of things. Specifically the bacon and egg pie and salad πŸ™‚

Soon after it was time for my favourite…. PUDDING!!! πŸ˜€ The selection was AMAZING.

I chose to have two different kinds of cheesecake and a scoop of Ambrosia. The yellow cheesecake was INCREDIBLE! It was so so so good, I want the recipe!

Shortly after that the clouds started rolling in…

Eventually people started winding down and leaving.

The night ended with a very happy (and drunk) Grandma Penny πŸ™‚

The next day we had a great time. Our big family group went to the Mount and went out for lunch. (We originally had plans for the beach but in the morning the weather did not permit…)

We passed this GORGEOUS puppy, it was a cross between a Chihuahua and a Poodle πŸ™‚ adorable. We stopped to pat it for ages.

We agreed on a Turkish restaurant for lunch. I didn’t like it very much because the waiter was extremely rude and used nasty language. I ordered a chai latte (as usual) and Grandma Penny ordered a huge platter for us all to share.

My chai latte was a huge let down. It came with some weird, lumpy foam stuff on top…. didn’t know what was up with that and it tasted absolutely revolting. I scooped it all off and put it on my side dish. It looked like dog vomit.

I had a bite of my sisters Lamb kebab, THAT tasted good. I must admit, the food was divine because the platter tasted incredible too.

We couldn’t stay long, our family had to go our separate ways as we were all on tight schedules. Penny, Temania, Colleen and Jade all went back to Hamilton, Grant went back to Grandma Penny’s house and Mum, Mark, Sam, Grandma Penny and I all went to Otumoetai to go visit our old dog Tai πŸ™‚

It was so great to see him!!! He recognized us and was so excited he was jumping up to us and running around like a mad thing. It totally made my day. It also made me miss him HEAPS!!!

We couldn’t stay long, we had to get back to Whakatane. I was an excellent trip and I got to come home and spend the rest of Valentine’s Day with Dallas πŸ™‚

Food for thought.

Morning all! Hope you’re all excited and have some amazing plans for this beautiful Saturday morning πŸ™‚

I love Saturdays. They’re by far my favourite day of the week, and as of this year the only day I have completely off! :O That’s because of school and that I work on Sunday’s now.

Anyway, last night I had an excellent gym session.

I was very excited to go! πŸ™‚ (btw, do you like the new hairdo? dyed it black and got it cut)

I hadn’t been in THREE DAYS and so it had to be good. I had a fabulous cross-training workout which consisted of:

  • 2 minute walk warmup on the treadmill
  • 10 minute run on the treadmill
  • 5 minutes interval training on the spin bike (10 seconds of high resistance followed by 20 seconds recovery with low resistance)
  • 10 minutes on the stationary bike
  • 10 minutes on the rowing machine
  • 10 minutes on the Elliptical
  • 5 minutes spin bike interval training

I then did about a minute of skipping, a few press-ups and some hip strengthening exercises before coming home. The whole thing took about an hour and 20 minutes or so.

Today I reeeeaaallly need to go for a swim :/ Swimming sports is on Thursday and I’m no where near prepared for it. I’ll either try to fit one in before 10am (because we’re hosting a Japanese exchange student for 12 days and they have some activities planned at the beach at this time) or this afternoon.

I didn’t do the triathlon that I had planned for the 12th if anybody noticed. I came to the conclusion that I was simply ill-prepared.

ANYWAY! Moving on, as the subject line reads, here’s some food for thought..

I’ve discovered that with my body, when I have a more stabilizing, solid breakfast that somehow incorporates 2 eggs and 2 pieces of bread or toast, it sets me up for the whole day and I snack less on sugary foods and junk.

My usual morning breakfast is either French Toast with a dribble of maple syrup and a handful of frozen blueberries on each slice, or scrambled eggs on toast with the same toppings. I also try to fit in a piece of fruit somewhere along the line.

I have found that this breakfast is the only thing that keeps me full. Come interval and I’m still not hungry! it’s fantastic because then my interval snacks are enough to carry me happily over to lunch time.

As usual, eggs and carbs πŸ™‚ I hate people who claim that carbohydrates are bad.. That’s such crap in my opinion. I eat a ton of carbs because that’s what my body craves and I’ve LOST weight! You need carbohydrates to help keep you full and give you more energy, if you’re eating the right sort of carbs (wholegrains etc) then it’s not a problem!

Another thing is that I’ve decided to switch to a different Physiotherapist. And not just within the business, I mean an entirely different clinic. I have some serious issues with the very rude and unintelligent receptionist who has caused me more problems than I care to deal with, and I just can’t stand that revolting tongue bar she flashes around when she grins when she realized she completely screwed something up.

I have my first physio appointment with my new physio on Monday afternoon. Here’s hoping it works out!

I’m reading “Scar Tissue” by Anthony Kiedis again. It’s an incredible and inspiring autobiography, I think I’m more in love with it this time round than I was the first.

the Red Hot Chili Peppers are just so darn talented. They keep producing incredible music, over and over again. I heard rumours that there’s a new album on it’s way out this year, and I reeaallly hope that’s true! They’re my favourite band and I would die to see them live.

They’re also really really funny πŸ™‚ That’s something you’ll notice if you read AK’s book.

Camping trip from hell…

Guess who’s back! πŸ˜€ God, I cannot tell you just how great it is to be back home. The last 4-5 days have been such torture… There are no words…

I’ll explain exactly why…

Well it started last Sunday, we very nearly didn’t decide to go because the weather forecast was not good but when the day came the sun was a-shining bright and we thought it was probably worth it.

I managed to get in a 35 minute Elliptical workout before we left, it was so of my “last chance workout” because I wasn’t sure what kind of exercise I was going to be able to do whilst camping. I was kinda hoping to swim or something.

It took forever for us to get around to leaving. I spent the day with Dallas while we were waiting πŸ™‚ it was nice, it was a little bitter-sweet though coz we knew we wouldn’t see each other again for a while. (Speaking of Dallas and I, it’s our 6 month anniversary today πŸ˜€ yay for us! We’ve made it so far, despite all the problems, controversy and hurt that it took to make it through. That makes this day even more satisfying.)

I actually really enjoyed the trip to the campsite. It started pouring just past Opotiki, but I was perfectly content with my Ipod. I’m really in love with the song “Wet Sand” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers right now, Emma kinda showed it to me, and ever since I’ve been obsessed with it. Have a listen for yourself, it’s beautiful:

Anyway, so all the way through the pouring rain I had this song and “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” also by the Chili’s, on constant repeat. Happy was I! πŸ˜€

Eventually we got there and thankfully it had stopped raining. It stopped long enough for us to set up our tents and sort most of our stuff out.

My humble abode:

Initially I was pretty excited, I was optimistic, despite the bad weather. I was prepared with my stack of books anyway πŸ˜‰

But then after a day or so, the weather really packed in.

And I got sad…

It sucked so bad, it just poured and poured and after a while the rain started to come in through our tents. The wind was so strong that when I was in my tent, I was almost 100% sure that it was going to pull the pegs straight outta the ground and the top cover would fly away.

I was NOOTTTT HAPPPYYY! There was absolutely nothing to do but read, and my books kept getting rained on 😑 I was grumpy, and even though I tried not to complain, I couldn’t help but let my ever-increasing depression seep through to the outside.

We did have a cool campfire with yummy dinners each night. And the dog was in heaven. (Dog in singular because we sold our other dog Tai 😦 I’m sad to see him go, but he just wasn’t getting an adequate amount of exercise that he needed. He’s gone to an awesome new family and he loves it πŸ™‚ That’s all that matters)

We did get ONE beautiful sunny day, which was a huge breath of fresh air from the weather that we’d been getting.

We all loved it and soaked up the sun, thoroughly making the most of the sunshine.

I was happyy! And made even happier when Sunblock was called into the equation. I love wearing sunblock lol, it makes me feel responsible haha, and it reminds me of summer πŸ™‚

Unfortunately, the great weather was short lived 😦

But despite the rain, I was able to get some pretty good photo-opportunities. Check out some of my favourite shots from the four days:

Anyway, we had planned to stay for 7 days, but as it happened the weather was so terrible that we decided to pack up and leave 3 days early.

Well actually, to say we “packed up” would be a lie. We left our tents and all our food and stuff there and only brought home our clothes. The rain was so bad that almost the entire campsite was flooded, including my parents tent. My tent wasn’t flooded but the rain was beginning to seep through the walls and was making my sheets wet. Our entire outside food/kitchen etc area was flooded, so unless we had gumboots (which we didn’t think to bring), we couldn’t really use that area.

We had to leave the tents there so they could dry out properly before being packed away. Mark plans to head back soon so he can pack everything up dry and bring it home.

I was ecstatic when mum announced that I needed to pack up my gear coz we were leaving. I was so happy to get home.

I felt like crap the whole time and got sick too 😦 I was waking up each day with bad headaches, neck, back and shoulder pains, fuzzy vision and a killer sore throat. I put it down to lack of sleep (I barely slept a wink while I was there), an uncomfortable bed (it was an air bed), too much junk food and no exercise. I was unable to exercise at all through the 4 days and it sucked! My legs started stiffening up and I just felt so yuck… I had to take a rest day yesterday as well because I still felt really awful and knew I needed to listen to my body and not exercise.

I was over the moon to wake up this morning with no symptoms πŸ™‚ I happily went to the gym and spent an hour and 45 minutes engaging in the workout to end all workouts! It was great πŸ˜€ It incorporated cross-training, cycling, rowing and strength training. I was sufficiently spent by the end πŸ™‚

Evening stroll

Ok, before I get to the main topic of this post, I’d just like to show you before and after shots of my arms. I’m so proud of how much muscle tone I’ve managed to build πŸ˜€

Anyway, this evening I decided to do something I have not done in MONTHS. I decided to go for an evening walk, simply for the fresh air and the chance to photograph my surroundings.

I really really enjoyed it. It was nice to just take my time, enjoy the scenery, stop to take photos.

At one point, this cat kept me amused for a solid 2 minutes lol.

I was really anxious about knee pain or hip pain, my walk was about 2.5 Kilometers and it took me around 50 minutes (taking my time, dawdling, stopping to take photos etc etc), but I can happily say that I experienced little to no pain! πŸ™‚

I went to the physiotherapist again today. She ended up giving my left leg a massage and then acupuncture. I must admit, I was pretty squeamish with the needles… I don’t know when I’ll ever overcome that silly phobia!

It ended up feeling pretty good once the needles were in place. I was lying on my side and had needles from my feet up to my hip, I was sweating with anxiety at first, but then I started to relax a little bit while she left them in. It felt like this big wave of warmth was continuously washing through my leg.

She only did one leg so I could compare the two and see how it goes, whether it makes a difference or not. I think it has because my leg is already starting to feel normal again πŸ˜€

Tomorrow morning I’m starting my day with a gym session. Since I didn’t swim today I shall swim tomorrow for 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes on the Elliptical, then maybe 10 or 15 on the rowing machine.

Christmas Day Recap!

Happy New Year! It’s New Years eve and I can hardly believe it… This year has just flown past, and to tell you the truth, I could not be HAPPIER about it!!! I hope the next two years pass as quickly.

Anyway, here’s some photos from Christmas Day. I’d type out a whole blog about it but that’ll take ages lol, and I’m feeling lazy.

It started in Hamilton at Dad’s house. All of us got up early to go open presents, Daniel had TONS of gifts including a PSP, which is something he’s been wishing for for ages now, and here’s a pic of him in the middle of his victory dance when he opened it hahaha.

This is so cute πŸ™‚

After that, we all piled into the car to travel up to Auckland to meet up with more family.

It took us TWO AND A HALF HOURS to get there, instead of the usual 1 and a half hours because traffic was so bad!!

Aside from that, it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed taking photos of scenery and such.

One we got there, we greeted everybody, then headed into the family room to open more presents.

After presents, it was FOOD TIME! πŸ˜€

And time to take photos of Aunty Debbie’s glass of bubbles πŸ™‚

Then it was time for the compulsory walk along the beach, where we stopped to take family photos:

The scenery was great and so it gave me the perfect opportunity to test my camera out as best I could.

I was in photography HEAVEN!

We had some good fun on the beach, it was so packed! Like an Australian beach! haha. We took some more good family photos and Dad and I barely put our cameras down the whole time.

On the way back we took some more family shots.

I love these three photos that I took of Lee, Daniel and Holly. The lighting is so so good and I think these three shots are my three favorites of the entire day.

Once we got home, Lee, Holly and I grabbed a chilled lemon lime and bitters and chillaxed on the trampoline. There was lots of lazing around and enjoying the tremendous sun and heat.

The rest of the evening was really low-key. We had small dinners coz we were all still stuffed from lunch.

The evening basically consisted of television, ice cream, chocolate and playing with new presents πŸ™‚

Perfect way to end an evening.

I passed out as soon as my head hit the pillow because I was so tired from such a busy day.

I hope you enjoyed this post! It took me all day to write it up and all week to gain the motivation to do it lol.
